Hatter's Lament

"Hatter's Lament" is a hauntingly beautiful song by Colorado singer-songwriter Alpha the Musical. Katy first heard Alpha sing at the Women's Theatre Festival (WTF) in Colorado Springs. After that, they became friends and longed to collaborate. In November of 2025, both Katy and Alpha were asked to perform at Meow Wolf Denver's Bedtime Stories variety show. That became the seed of this collaboration. After meeting with Alpha and learning all of the details and intention behind the song, Katy started a storyboard and got to work. The final product is done entirely with "sand shadows" and hands. It is very ephemeral, somewhat psychedelic, and tickles the brain. The song is based on the story of Alpha and her partner falling in love. The video you see below showcases the final performance at Meow Wolf, and a rehearsal version for close-up visuals.
