Muddy Waters - Shadow Piece

"Muddy Waters" is one of Katy's first and favorite shadow puppet pieces. Featuring what Katy calls "front-facing shadow puppetry," a team of four puppeteers brought this spooky song by artist LP to life. Using about 60 puppets, 6 flashlights (sometimes held in mouths), and a lot of finely tuned choreography, this piece is a unique and very "Katy" flavored puppet piece. The first version premiered at the 2019 Rocky Mountain Puppet Slam and featured Katy Williams, Rhen Hirsh, Julie Talty, Leah Cardenas, and Katie Weigman. The piece was then reimagined and refined for the 2020 puppet slam. This piece served as inspiration for Katy's collaboration with Pandemic Collective for their 2019 production of Laveau.
